Seeking a Sign from God?

For this post, I had an elaborate story I wanted to share with everyone, with a few giggles here and there but God is telling me to go in a different direction. Simply because the topic in this blog is VERY important to God.

So straight to the point I go, there are those who say they have surrendered their will to God but seek him for a sign, I fell into this category. What does that mean to seek God for a sign? “Well God if this is for me give me a sign so I know it’s you”. When truthfully, when you have options one confirmation from God won’t be enough.

WHEN YOU HAVE OPTIONS A SIGN FROM GOD WON’T BE ENOUGH!

Jesus knew this and in Matthew 16:4 said that a wicked and adulterous generation seeks (repeatedly) after a sign, and there will be no sign given to it but the sign of judgment.

At this point, like you, I thought well God how do I know if something is of you or not? He then sent me to Matthew 16:2 and Proverbs 16:3-9.

Matthew 16:2 says “When it is evening, you say, it will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, it will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowring. Oh, you hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky; but can you not discern the sign of the times?”

Meaning the signs of the season I was in were already given but because I had OPTIONS, I could not discern what was of God and what was not. This is why Jesus calls them an adulterous generation. Meaning a generation that has multiple options.

One thing about God is ..

YOU CANNOT CHEAT GOD!

If you do not eliminate certain things, you will never get the life he has predestined you to have. You think you are waiting on God’s instruction, but he is waiting for you to eliminate your options. Instructions were given but you can’t discern them because you are adulterous.

The answer is to ELIMINATE YOUR OPTIONS. Some of us need to eliminate people, eliminate jobs, eliminate hobbies, and eliminate the thought that we have free will.

A common misconception for believers is that we have free will. We go through this life believing that we can embark on this Christian walk and any decision we make for our life God will back us. If God so happens to show us a different direction to go in, we can decide not to take that path. Allow me to burst that bubble! Like God burst mine! We were allowed free will to CHOOSE to surrender our will to God’s will for our life, simply because His will is better. Let me say that again because it is in fact a mind-boggler. We were given free will, so we could CHOOSE to give up our WILL to God. Not because we must but because we KNOW Him, and the character of who He is.

Proverbs 16:3 says commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established. It goes on to say in verse 9 that ONCE a man commits his way to God and God directs his thoughts then and only then can a man plan a thing and God will direct his steps. Meaning God will not direct your path until you have committed your will to him in everything.

Since most of us lack discernment and need help to eliminate options, the task for this week is to select a day to fast on and commit to it. This journey to commit our ways to God and eliminate options is not an easy one and requires our flesh to die. If you are not willing to fast, then you are not willing to do what it takes to walk in the full life God has ordained for you to have. Believe me, it’s a good life.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
